“75″ – LoudMimeDave

Above is my final piece for my Advanced Production Techniques module at university. Our project was to create a song that incorporates the techniques we have learnt over the duration of the course. This piece incorporates the use of synthesisers, mixing and sampling techniques and uses several differing drum and synth patterns to create a whole, complete song.

I’ve recently joined a band called the Beijing Bandits, who are a gypsy folk rock band based in Newport. You can check out the Soundcloud or like us on Facebook. We’re playing a gig on the 9th December at Le Pub, Newport and another gig on the 15th December at Meze Lounge, Newport.

Dirty Ape – Beijing Bandits

Recently, I’ve started listening to a lot more experimental electronic music. After producing my entry for The Science Museum’s remix contest, I had another shot at producing my own experimental electronic piece. Seeing as I’m still getting to grips with Ableton Live 8, I had a go at mixing while recording, mainly altering the cutoff, attack and resonance.

“Rolex Knockoff” was my first attempt at producing a Moombahton piece. Set as (almost) a challenge, by my friend Caramelou, I sampled “Wearing My Rolex” by Wiley, slowing the BPM and adding percussive instruments.

“Sunshyne” was the product of being asked to edit Dario G’s “Sunchyme“, in order to use the final piece as backing music to a live fashion gallery exhibition. The brief was to only use the section with tribal-like vocals and to repeat till the piece ended.

“Stash” was my first shot at actual electronic music production. I wanted to make a dark sounding dubstep song, using only the samples available in Ableton Live 8. This is the product of my first shot with proper music sequencing software and, although I know it’s not great by any means, I’m quite proud of it.

Written as a response to The Science Museum’s OraMIX competition, this track used audio stems of Daphne Oram’s recordings in order to create a new “song”, through remixing the available audio.
